At a glance

Thymulin is a zinc-dependent thymic nonapeptide studied for immune signaling and inflammation. Laboratory studies distinguish its active zinc-bound form from metal-free serum thymic factor (Dardenne et al., 1982). A later rat study examined inflammatory pain, but the reviewed sources do not establish a human dosing regimen or a recovery benefit for athletes. The sections below explain the evidence and its limits.

Overview

Thymulin is also known as FTS-Zn. It is distinct from thymalin extracts, thymogen, thymosin alpha-1 and the peptide analogue of thymulin, PAT. Shared thymic terminology does not make those substances interchangeable. The foundational work concerns biochemical activity and antibody recognition; those experiments cannot establish a clinical indication. Dardenne et al., 1982 and Dardenne et al., 1985.

How Thymulin works

Zinc-dependent activity#

"The metal-to-peptide molar ratio of 1:1 provides the best activation." Dardenne et al., 1982

Removing metal ions reduced FTS activity in the reported assay; adding zinc restored it. This describes laboratory biological activity, rather than a method for preparing a commercial research vial.

Animal inflammation research#

A rat study reported reduced edema and thermal hypersensitivity alongside changes in spinal inflammatory signaling after intraperitoneal thymulin treatment. Nasseri et al., 2019. Human efficacy cannot be inferred from that experiment. Additional rodent work found that thymulin improved blood–brain barrier measures and was accompanied by reductions in serum pro‑inflammatory cytokines (IL‑6, IL‑17, IFN‑γ) in an experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis model, but these are preclinical findings and do not establish human effects (Lunin et al., 2023).

Protocol

The reviewed sources do not support a human dose, dose ladder or route-specific schedule. The rat inflammation study used intraperitoneal treatment over 21 days, which is an experimental design rather than a human protocol. No animal-to-human dose conversion is supplied here. Nasseri et al., 2019.

Cycle length & outcomes

No evidence-based human cycle length, loading phase or taper is established by the reviewed dossier. A 21-day animal experiment does not establish an appropriate duration in people. There are no use-case dose presets for this profile. Nasseri et al., 2019.

Risks & mistakes

Human adverse-event rates, long-term safety and a dose-dependent risk profile were not established in the reviewed sources. Their laboratory and rat results do not justify describing commercial thymulin as safe. No sex-specific dose, safety threshold or monitoring schedule can be derived from these papers. Nasseri et al., 2019.

Conclusion

The reviewed thymulin evidence concerns zinc-dependent laboratory activity and an animal inflammation model. It does not establish a human dosing regimen, athletic recovery effect or safety profile. Formulation identity and the study population remain essential limits when interpreting these results. Dardenne et al., 1982; Nasseri et al., 2019.
